The Great Siege of 1224 - The Fall of Bedford Castle; a new theatrical prodcution

Presenting a new theatrical adaptation of ‘The Great Siege of 1224’ that will tell the story of the fall of Bedford Castle through the eyes of the historical characters present in those tumultuous days. This specially commissioned play with songs will be staged as 4 afternoon & evening performances over Bank Holiday weekend; Saturday and Sunday 24th & 25th August, 800 years almost to the day that the siege ended on the very ground where the events unfolded on Castle Mound. We will share with Bedfordians the stories of the main players and the drama that played out, bringing to life the real historical figures who were involved, from Kings and Lords to humble carpenters and stone masons. Visitors will learn the fascinating and fatal consequences of defying a king and know why we have a mound with no Castle!
