Culture And Memory
We will tell the story of Amateur Rugby League in the Castleford area, from it’s inception in the late 1890’s to present day. Working with community clubs we will identify key volunteers, many are active on a local facebook group, to help us collect, collate, record the history of amateur clubs enabling us to build innovative mini museums featuring each club, past and present, with information about their club. We will host training workshops at local clubs to upskill volunteers to develop skills in digitisation, research, presentation methods, interview skills to record oral histories of older players, officials and volunteers to capture their memories. Our project will reconnect past players and supporters with their club, create a network of club “historians” who will add to our story for years to come further embedding their club in our community brining new and old together to enhance the club environment for all.
