Nature And Landscape
We envisage the Mann Wood Wilderness Heritage Project as a symbol of ecological restoration, heritage preservation and inclusive community engagement. It will revitalise a vulnerable 92-acre ancient woodland, restoring traditional habitats, historic features and reconnecting people with nature and local memory. Habitat restoration and a low-impact learning centre will support tailored activities for schools, SEND groups, vulnerable adults and marginalised communities. These include woodland management using traditional techniques, storytelling, nature-based wellbeing and intergenerational skills-sharing. The legacy will be a sanctuary for wildlife and a centre of heritage learning and participation. By protecting ancient features and involving local people in meaningful, lasting ways, Mann Wood will remain a cherished, resilient space. Future generations will inherit a living heritage shaped by care, shared responsibility and place-based tradition. As Sir David Attenborough said, “No one will protect what they don’t care about; and no one will care about what they have never experienced.”
