The Mauveine Line: A Journey Through Ealing’s Industrial Past and Green Future

The Mauveine Line will create a new heritage route along Ealing’s canals and rivers, connecting nationally significant industrial, natural and cultural sites through a single, accessible landscape programme. The project will transform under-recognised waterways into a coherent public route where residents and visitors can explore the stories of water, clay and colour that shaped the borough. Through creative interpretation, conservation work, community events, digital resources and volunteering, the project will bring hidden and at-risk heritage back into public life. Focusing on canal-side neighbourhoods such as Southall, Greenford and Northolt, the Mauveine Line will remove barriers to participation by using the waterways as a free, outdoor and everyday heritage space. Its legacy will be a permanent, community-supported heritage corridor, where historic sites are better understood, natural habitats are cared for, local people play an active role in shaping and protecting their heritage, and Ealing's canals become a national heritage destination.
