The Nature & Nurture Hub: Arlington

Arlington Estate is an important pocket of nature-rich habitat in North Devon, on the doorstep of three of the most disadvantaged communities in Devon. This project will create a new, free, accessible, public Nature & Nurture Hub- a ‘gateway’ into nature for our communities to connect with, enjoy and learn about their distinctive, local natural heritage. At the Hub, a packed 18-month programme of tailored activities will break down the barriers that prevent our most marginalised, nature-deprived communities from accessing nature. It will include two bespoke ‘9 Months in Nature’ programmes, an apprenticeship opportunity, a Young Conservationist volunteering project and year-round, ‘entry-level’ nature activities. Over two years, 1,000 local people (and 6 partners) will restore 5.3ha of habitat - creating floristically rich meadows and woodland. They will co-create physically and psychologically safe nature spaces, supporting communities to build confidence in nature and deepen their connection with their local natural heritage.
