The Power of Worcester

Through this project, we aim to breathe life into Worcester’s Power heritage. Our project will focus on the history of electricity in Worcester. 2024 sees the 130th anniversary of the first hydroelectric powerstation in Europe, at Powick Mills, Worcester. This important heritage also includes the subsequent 'Worcester Generating Station' near the main Worcester Bridge over the River Severn. We want to - Unearth hidden tales, memories and dispersed documentation about Worcester’s history of electricity - Present this as a powerful story in a creative and engaging way to enable people to reconnect with a heritage at risk of being lost - Engage targeted, local communities who have lost/do not have power themselves (using the project’s metaphor) and who may be new to heritage - Inspire people to preserve and celebrate this history whilst looking to the future of green energy and what we can all do.
