The Showmen of Sheffield

The project aims to celebrate and safeguard the legacy of the Pullin family of Sheffield – one of Britain’s oldest fairground/amusements families, whose history stretches back generations. The Pullins were among the first travelling families in the UK from the 12th century and have maintained an unbroken connection with Sheffield for over 100 years. The family also played an early role in the establishment of the National Fairground and Circus Archive (NFCA) at the University of Sheffield. This project is about recording the heritage of the last two family members, restoring the two last made rides by Jackson's, creating an archive of materials about the association with Sheffield Parks: oral recordings, stories from users, interpretation boards for others to learn from: book, digitising stories, photos and a film for public use/learning, providing activities around heritage painting skills, promoting cultural diversity, ensuring a legacy to celebrate the Pullin archive and connection.
