Culture And Memory
The Stories They Carried: Preserving the voices, memories and heritage of Wellingborough’s Windrush generation.
Youth Borough CIC is seeking funding to deliver “Windrush Generations: Stories That Stay With Us”, an intergenerational heritage project taking place during Black History Month 2026 across Northamptonshire. The project will bring together young people aged 12–25 and older members of the Caribbean community to celebrate and preserve the stories, memories and cultural contributions of the Windrush generation through meaningful shared experiences. Activities will include visits to elderly residents and care settings, storytelling conversations, remembrance planting activities and a community celebration event exploring Caribbean heritage through music, food and reflection. The project aims to strengthen intergenerational connection, reduce social isolation among older residents and help young people develop a stronger understanding of identity, belonging and local heritage. By capturing and celebrating lived experiences that may otherwise be lost, the project will create a lasting community legacy while encouraging empathy, connection and cultural pride across generations within Northamptonshire.
