The Women in War Norwich Community Heritage Project

The Women in War Norwich Community Heritage Project aims to bring to life and honour the true stories of nurses and ambulance drivers who served on the frontline during the First World War. With a particular focus on local history and local nurses, including the inspirational story of Edith Cavell, a Norwich nurse, marking the 110th anniversary of her death. This will be our first project in Norfolk. During our six-month project, we will work with the Norfolk Museum and the Norfolk Records Office. Around 20 local participants will take part in weekly workshops developing historical enquiry skills through archives, artefacts, performance techniques and visits. Together, we will explore what frontline service was like, including daily roles, training, working conditions and the impact these women made. We will create a learning resources pack, a short documentary film on Edith Cavell and a small theatrical performance sharing our work.
