Threads of Time: Moston’s Nigerian heritage—1800s
Through Threads of Time, ReflecTeen Hub (http://www.reflecteen.org.uk/) aims to preserve and celebrate Moston’s 1800s Nigerian Yoruba and Igbo heritage over 16 months. Engaging 200 youth (5–18) and 100 elders (50+). The project will safeguard traditional attire (Adire, Iro ati Buba), festivals, and foods (pounded yam) via oral histories, workshops, and events like a fashion showcase, food festival, and exhibition. Addressing cultural isolation and low confidence in Moston’s marginalised Nigerian diaspora, it fosters intergenerational connection, boosts community pride, and enhances mental wellbeing. A digital archive or website ensures lasting impact, while partnerships with Manchester Gallery and local schools amplify reach. By reviving sustainable practices like hand-dyeing, Threads of Time strengthens ReflecTeen Hub’s heritage expertise, uniting Moston’s diverse present with its diasporic past for a resilient, culturally vibrant future.
