Nature And Landscape
From Helman Tor, looking down the catchment to St Austell Bay, it is clear that nature on land and sea is connected – and we cannot tackle the nature and climate crises unless we recognise this. Tor to Shore, an ambitious and unique nature recovery project spanning across land and sea, will create a thriving land and seascape in one of the UK’s most deprived areas, where: • Natural processes are reintroduced at Helman Tor nature reserve, creating and restoring habitats while reducing the need for management interventions. • Nature-friendly farming supports wildlife through the catchment. • Reduced agricultural pollution results in a healthy Par River flowing into St Austell Bay, benefiting terrestrial and marine wildlife. • Local communities, businesses, and fishers collaborate on a Voluntary Marine Nature Reserve, reducing pressure on St Austell Bay’s blue carbon habitats. • Engaged communities (including those currently facing barriers) access, take pride in, act for and benefit from nature.
