Nature And Landscape
The Flashes of Wigan and Leigh NNR is a distinctive heritage site, crucial for its ecological, historical, and community value. It represents a successful reclamation of industrial lands, now serving as a vital haven for wildlife and a natural resource and opportunity to engage for local people. Through engaging with a range of community members through workshops (with four schools and four community groups), talks and photowalks (for the general public) and public exhibitions, we will develop and build on people’s understanding of and love for their local trees and green spaces. The new Tree Story Wigan website will provide a platform for everyone in the area to share their own personal “Tree Story” and help build an interactive map to tell the story of Wigan through its trees. This project aims to celebrate, preserve and connect new communities to this unique heritage, ensuring its continued importance for future generations.
