Uncovering Treasure

Uncovering Treasure will work with 9 of Bristol’s diverse cultural communities over a year of monthly workshops, culminating in presentations at our annual Diaspora Festival. The project responds to consultation with our festival participants from the last festival, who expressed a deep wish to share their intangible and often hidden cultural heritage with wider audiences, building understanding and enabling pride, particularly in the current racialised climate . Many of these practices—songs, crafts, stories, rituals—are at risk of disappearing as communities are marginalised or absorbed into mainstream British culture. By providing space, resources, and public visibility, we will preserve, celebrate and share these traditions, ensuring that younger generations feel pride in their identities and that Bristol’s public recognises these cultures as part of British heritage. Through creative exchange and performance, the project nurtures belonging, builds cross-cultural understanding, and validates these communities’ contribution to the city’s living heritage.
