Victoria Park Community Trust Tree Survey
Victoria Park has many impressive heritage trees which are nearing the end of their lives but no baseline survey to manage their conservation, demise & replacement. This project will appoint an arboriculturist to survey the trees, assess health status & risks, create a schedule of required remedial works and make recommendations on future management. The project will underpin the future of the trees in this historically important park (Historic Environment Scotland’s Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes https://portal.historicenvironment.scot/designation/GDL00382). Currently, work on the tree structure of the park are ad hoc and result from either opportunism or crisis management. For example, Storm Éowyn toppled or majorly damaged over 25 mature trees. We have crowdfunded to replace them. However, we want to implement a tree management programme which will enhance the health and safety of the existing trees and plan for the future replacement of those nearing the end of their lives.
