Culture And Memory
As part of our ongoing centenary (November 2024-2025), the Westfield War Memorial Village Lancaster wants to undertake a project run by a pre-existing team of professionally managed volunteers - which we hope to grow - and who will learn new skills to help support the village in the future. We will appeal for images of this unique community (for disabled and necessitous military veterans) to add to our existing archive and fill gaps within it. (We must do this before older residents pass on.) We also want to digitise our images to provide better access for historians and researchers and to complete a pictorial history book that contextualises these images. The book (including a limited physical run and digital website version) will be given to schools, colleges, libraries and sitting and future tenants to ensure the village's story lives on and its conservation status is understood, maintained, protected and supported.
