Nature And Landscape

Wilding Chesterfield – aiding nature’s recovery in our urban spaces

Nature and people are struggling; nature is in rapid decline and people are disconnected from nature, struggling with their wellbeing and experiencing climate anxiety. Our Urban Species Recovery project, Wilding Chesterfield, aims to address this, with urgency, laying strong, resilient foundations to make Chesterfield rich in wildlife, safeguarded by active communities who are benefiting from everyday access to good quality nature experiences. Wilding Chesterfield is a two-year pilot project which will deliver species recovery interventions for swifts, hedgehogs, bats and pollinators, street by street, through community action, making nature a priority to people where they live. Delivered through four sub-projects: Swift Street, Hedgehog Highways, BatScapes, and Pollinator Paradise, Wilding Chesterfield will use three lenses - IDENTIFY the state of our urban species and their habitats, PROTECT existing species and their habitats including feeding, nesting, and safe travel corridors, GROW resilient populations and protected habitats through protective communities.
