Women Speak Volumes Between Generations

Women Speak Volumes Between Generations (WSVBG) is a project which aims to highlight the often hidden or neglected stories of older Black women in the arts and what they have contributed to British society over many decades. We’ll make their lives – and their trajectories in the creative sector – seen and heard through: live talks, films, online material and a printed publication. We’ll involve younger Black women volunteers in this work, enabling them to gain experience in the arts, from organising events to editing books. We’ll also hold a series of workshops where the volunteers will learn about archiving, oral histories, digitising archives and other skills, so that they can start to document the heritage of older Black women around them. In these ways, WSVBG would like to connect Black women’s lives between generations, so that younger women may learn and be inspired by those who came before them.
