Woodland Heritage Skills

The Woodland Heritage Skills project will build on the successful trial of a new initiative in 2025, Open Woods and Workshops, in order to conserve and promote sustainable productive woodland management skills in the UK. Responding to the urgent need to address the climate and biodiversity crises, Woodland Heritage Skills will strengthen the skills, networks, supply chains and processes required for a thriving UK wood culture, whilst educating and raising awareness of the risks of losing these skills, and the benefits of upscaling them. We aim to deliver a series of events and communications activities that have been designed for maximum impact in saving the woodland heritage skills that are currently at risk in the UK. We aim for the legacy of the project to be that woodland heritage skills have been maintained, enhanced, and passed on to current and future generations and improved upon in the process.
