Woodworking and Gender Project

We want to inspire more women and non-binary people to perceive woodworking as a viable career. We want to engage and challenge educators and employers to help bridge the gap between education and heritage woodworking crafts for women and non-binary people. This project will provide the skills and knowledge to help women and non-binary craftspeople get a job, and hold onto that job, in a sector encouraged to be supportive through awareness-raising and outreach. These craftspeople will help preserve and develop traditional woodworking skills currently on the Red List of Endangered Crafts, while emphasising the need for sustainability through the creative use of home-grown timber. By highlighting these role models in a more diverse and inclusive sector, we will ensure future generations of skilled and resilient women and non-binary woodworkers are able to support the heritage of this country for years to come.
