Yam from Here: Migration and the Making of the Black Country

Yam from Here: Migration and the Making of the Black Country (YFH) tells the story of the diversity of the Black Country through the perspectives of people who call it home. Through a multi-media methodology, YFH explores people’s associations with the Black Country through three themes: Home, Journeys and Community. YFH takes place over several stages; interviews, community workshops, and exhibitions. The testimonies gathered through interviews and the creative production of the workshops, will be enriched by professional photography. These three sources – testimony, artistic production, and photography seek to tell a layered story of the Black Country as a dynamic place of Journeys, Home, and Community. YFH aims to bring together and amplify voices of local people and underrepresented communities. It aims to bring people together by the common thread of our three simple themes, in assisting community cohesion, while educating different communities about the people they live alongside.
