Yiddishkeit, Discovering and Collecting Stories from a Lost World. We want to deliver an oral history and cultural project based on the recollections of Holocaust Survivors, Second and Third Generation families to discover and identify what Yiddishkeit influences from a lost Eastern European Ashkenazi have been handed on. January 2026 is the eightieth anniversary of the date that the last of the 300 Ashkenazi Jewish child Holocaust survivors who had come to the Lake District in August 1945 actually departed the Lakes to continue their journey of recovery. Yiddishkeit is a term that can refer broadly to Judaism or specifically to forms of Orthodox Judaism when used particularly by religious and Orthodox Ashkenazi from roots in Eastern Europe. In a more general sense, it has come to mean the "Jewishness" or "Jewish essence" of Ashkenazi Jews in general and the traditional Yiddish-speaking Jews of Eastern and Central Europe in particular.
